Gutbucket
(USA) / January 31, 2010

Latest news:

Gutbucket will play at Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival in Israel on February 3. Destroying walls between art-rock, avant-squonk, jazz-core and beyond, the decade-old New York quartet Gutbucket is not only equally comfortable playing in front of 900 sweatily pogo-ing teenage skate-punks, a crowd of cosmic indie-psych freaks, on an anarchist German art collective’s house-boat or even teaching master classes in the music departments of schools around the country, but most importantly, their music fits right in. “A Modest Proposal” solidifies Gutbucket's place at the forefront of a revitalized avant-garde music scene in New York, where sparkling new venues pack in 20-somethings at Steve Reich gigs and Bang on a Can 's all-night music marathons draw crowds for Stockhausen at Sunrise. The band has spent the past 10 years injecting a shot of exuberance into the minimalist cool of the New York downtown scene. The group attacks their music with the ferocity usually reserved for punk, and the humorous abstraction of art-rock, despite having earned their jazz bona fides. Founded by bassist Eric Rockwin, saxophonist Ken Thomson, guitarist Ty Citerman and drummer Paul Chuffo, Gutbucket built their all-important live reputation in New York clubs before spreading across east coast college towns. Trips to Europe soon followed, with over a dozen tours in 19 countries taken to date. Joined in 2007 by longtime friend Adam D Gold on drums following Chuffo's departure, Gold's musical voice was quickly deemed a necessity.

Glass
(USA) / January 31, 2010

Forthcoming release:

”Spectrum Principle”, the new album by progressive rock band Glass, is nearing completion. With basic tracking and overdubs commenced on September 12, 2008 and finished November 15, 2009, the new Glass CD holds some surprises for everyone. The creative vision for the new album has been largely supplied by drummer Jerry Cook who has produced most of the sessions for the album as well. Included with the usual array of great Glass classical melodies, intriguing jazz time signatures and vintage instrumentation will be experimental pieces. These Soundscapes are comprised of spoken word, augmented sound samples, vintage tape segments and elements as diverse as electronic sounds generated by bent-circuit keyboards and recordings of the earth’s magnetosphere. Also featured is the first acoustic guitar-centric Glass composition since those contained in the 1973 Glass half-hour epic “Broken Oars”. With any luck Musea Records will give final approve and release this new, Glass’ fourth, album for the label in the first half of 2010.

From.UZ
(Uzbekistan) / January 31, 2010

Forthcoming release:

10T Records is proud to announce the release of the brand new full length CD release by From.UZ, entitled “Seventh Story” on February 15, 2010. This will be the Uzbekistan-based band’s 3rd official release on 10T Records. From.UZ lit up the prog and fusion scene with their previous two releases, consistently garnering spots on critics’ top 10 lists and drawing comparisons to such stalwarts as Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report and Liquid Tension Experiment. Reenergized with a fresh new lineup of world-class musicians, the band returns with a new selection of intensely melodic hard prog-rock fusion. On “Seventh Story”, From.UZ continues in the musical direction they have already established, while simultaneously stretching into adventurous new territory. Vitaly Popeloff (guitars) and Albert Khalmurzaev (keyboards), the compositional core of the original band, remain on board to guide the musical direction. New are Igor Elizov (grand piano & keyboards), Ali Izmailov (percussion) and Surat Kasimov (bass). The music has become broader in its dimension through both new instrumentation (grand piano, xylophone & tubular bells), and the addition of vocals for the first time, supplied by Popeloff himself, with Elizov and Khalmurzaev singing backing vocals. Selected tracks from “Seventh Story” are immediately available to preview in their entirety at 10t Records. Additionally, “Seventh Story” is available for immediate shipping to distributors and pre-sales are now being taken. All pre-sales will ship prior to the official release date of February 9, 2010. After February 9, “Seventh Story” will be available at your favorite retail outlet for immediate purchase.

K-scope Music

K-scope Music – New release:

  • No Man – “Mixtaped”

No Man are Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Tim Bowness. Comprising a comprehensive career-spanning documentary, a sell-out performance at London's Bush Hall in 2008 and numerous extras (including newly commissioned and archive video footage), “Mixtaped” provides a fascinating insight into one of British music's most enduring and idealistic bands. Since releasing its first single in 1990, No-Man has produced a unique body of work that has developed from the band's proto trip-hop/ambient origins into something beyond easy categorization. After receiving ecstatic press reviews, indie top 20 hits and high profile contracts (with One Little Indian and Sony) in the early 1990s, the band has continued to evolve. Redefining itself with a constantly changing musical palette, No-Man has most recently released material through celebrated post- progressive label Kscope, and built up a loyal worldwide following drawn to the band's increasingly ambitious and intimate sound. Drawing from a diverse mix of classical minimalist, singer-songwriter, pop, electronica and progressive and post rock sources for inspiration, No-Man's music is an emotional fusion of lush soundscapes, poignant lyricism and sonic surprises. Directed by award-winning journalist Richard Smith, “Returning” is an 85 minute career-spanning documentary including previously unseen footage, photos and images, as well as in-depth interviews with every member of No-Man past and present (including Tim Bowness, Steven Wilson, Ben Coleman and Chris Maitland). In 1991, the band was described as 'conceivably the most important band since The Smiths' (Jon Wilde, Melody Maker). Almost 20 years later they've been hailed as, 'Britain's most underrated sorrowful sonic architects' (Chris Roberts, Uncut). Returning reveals for the first time the band's full history from their experimental music roots in a teenager's bedroom to a failed career in mainstream Pop; from near obscurity to increasing cult success. Above all, Returning is an account of two musicians who've stuck to their belief in the transformative power of popular music, and the music industry's sometimes tense relationships with art, commerce and its audience. “Mixtaped” contains No-Man's complete 2008 Bush Hall performance with 5.1 and stereo options. Extras on the DVDs include photos from all three of No-Man's first live concerts in 15 years, an exclusive soundtrack of the song Housekeeping, complete videos for several No-Man songs spanning 1990-2009, a no-man chronology, and deleted scenes. A mini-site featuring a trailer for the DVD, a live track taken from “Mixtaped”, the award winning promo video for Back When You Were Beautiful by Neil Whitman is now online.

    Progrock Records
    (USA) / January 31, 2010

    Progrock Records – New releases:

  • Vonassi (USA) – “The Battle of Ego”
  • Supernal Endgame – “Touch the Sky, Vol. I”

The progressive rock project Vonassi was formed between the musical chemistry of Jeff Vaughn and Vince Buonassi. Born out of Chicago, IL in fall of 2007, Vonassi began their first EP project as a musical experiment and exploration of their writing talents. It was apparent after that successful trial that a full album was essential and forthcoming. As that full album project unfolded, Vonassi added a permanent third member – Chase Carter (vocalist, guitarist). The result of this collaboration has now become the unique sound of Vonassi. Their debut album, entitled “The Battle of Ego”, was completed in November of 2009 and is described as a powerful and ambitious musical statement in today’s progressive rock genre.

A musical vision literally thirty years in the making, Supernal Endgame is comprised of three musicians – multi-instrumentalist John Eargle, guitarist Dan Pomeroy and Rob Price, drummer and lead vocalist for the band. With a little help from many musical friends – some old, some new (including bassist Randy George and, on one track, the amazing Roine Stolt) – these troubadours bring Eargle's musings and melodies to life on their first official release, "Touch the Sky, Vol. I", a work that's steeped in the legacy of classic progressive rock, but that possesses in equal part a passion for melody and wonder, even in the face of life's unpredictability. Cohorts and collaborators for many years, Eargle and Price have in recent years been joined by Pomeroy. Bringing together an eclectic mix of musical influences, the Endgamers set out to bring the faith of their hearts into a long-beloved musical context: melodic symphonic progressive.
