BANDS & PERFORMERS:

David Gilmour
(UK) / March 27, 2016

Latest news:

This summer David Gilmour will return to the Roman town of Pompeii for the first time in 45 years. The guitarist will perform two shows in the historic city in July, which will be his first shows there since Pink Floyd recorded Live at Pompeii back in 1971. Pompeii Culture Minister Dario Franceschini took to Twitter to make the official announcement writing: "Agreement reached. After 45 years David Gilmour will play again at Pompeii on July 7 and 8." Back in 1971, Pink Floyd filmed their classic Live at Pompeii concert over four days, where the band played at the Amphitheater of Pompeii without an audience. The psychedelic rockers performed blistering versions of ‘One of These Days’ and ‘Echoes’.

Jon Anderson
(UK) / March 27, 2016

Latest news & forthcoming releases:

The Anderson/Ponty band has announced a North American tour for this spring. The band, which includes former Yes vocalist Jon Anderson and violinist and jazz-fusion violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, will embark on an 18-date trek in the US and Canada in April and May. They're touring to promote their 2015 CD/DVD “Better Late than Never”, which was recorded at the Aspen Wheeler Opera House in Colorado in 2014.

Meanwhile, Anderson and his former Yes bandmates Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman are currently writing material for their ARW supergroup project. Writing on his own Facebook page, Anderson has confirmed: "At last I will start singing with Trevor and Rick later in the year as ARW, we have been writing some unique songs together, and feel it is time to go out together and perform on stage.” Meanwhile, Jamie Glaser, who is the guitarist with the Anderson/Ponty band has been a little more open on his own Facebook page: "The rumor you may have heard about ARW, Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, and Rick Wakeman, is entirely true. They are doing a new band, have some unique music they have and are writing, and they will be doing a reinvention of Yes as well (meaning some Yes songs their way). They will most likely tour in 2017. They have worked to get to this point for many years and are happy this will eventually happen. There is no conflict between tours or dates with the 2 bands and no one is replacing anyone in Anderson/Ponty.”

Former Yes vocalist Jon Anderson and The Flower Kings guitarist Roine Stolt have teamed up under the banner of Anderson/Stolt on the four-track release “Invention of Knowledge”, which arrives on June 24 via InsideOut Music. The title track clocks in at over 23 minutes, with the shortest offering being the 11-minute ‘Know’.

Ray Wilson
(UK) / March 27, 2016

Forthcoming releases:

Two albums to be released this year by Ray Wilson (ex-Genesis). The original plan was to release a double album called “Backseat Drivers” this year. The concept behind “Backseat Drivers” was to have two separate styles on one album. Ray has written and produced a whole album with more acoustic tracks and another one with full electric arrangements. Now, things will turn out differently. Two separate albums are now scheduled: The first album, “Song for a Friend” , will be released on June 3, 2016, and contains 10 Tracks. This album has an acoustic atmosphere and reduced arrangements. Ray dedicates this album to a close friend, who died in 2015. The following tracks will be on the album: 01. Old Book on the Shelf, 02. Over My Dead Body, 03. Cold Light of Day, 04. Song for a Friend, 05. How Long Is Too Long, 06. Not Long Till Springtime, 07. Backseat Driving, 08. Parallel Souls, 09. Tried and Failed, 10. High Hopes. All songs were written by Ray Wilson and Uwe Metzler. The last track, ‘High Hopes’, is a cover version of the legendary Pink Floyd song (Gilmour/Samson). Besides Ray, the following musicians appear on the album: Uwe Metzler (guitars), Ali Ferguson (atmosphere guitars), Lawrie Macmillan (bass), Kool Lyczek (piano, mellotron, hammond), Nir Z (drums), Mario Koszel (percussion), Steve Wilson (backing vocals). The album will be available in retail stores in early June. Later this year (October), another album will be released. It will be called “Makes Me Think of Home” and is some kind of a rockier counterpart.

Tool
(USA) / March 27, 2016

Latest news:

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan says work on the band’s long-awaited fifth album has ground to a halt again. They’ve been working on the follow up to 2006’s “10,000 Days” for several years, with guitarist Adam Jones predicting last year that an end to a legal battle meant progress would speed up. But Keenan tells PE.com: “We’ve found a common ground – we just can’t seem to move forward”. In November, Jones described their work to date as “amazing,” adding: “Things are really flowing and going really well. I’m just blown away at the stuff that’s coming together. I can’t wait for it to be done.” He also said that around 20 song ideas had been developed. Keenan is currently on the road with Puscifer, after Tool completed a US tour in January.
