Artillery
(Denmark) / April 26, 2009

Forthcoming release:

Artillery - one of the best thrash metal bands around returns with a brand new studio album! New material entitled “When Death Comes” will be their first studio release since the 1999’s “B.A.C.K”! Denmark’s Artillery is one of Europe’s earliest exponents of thrash metal and the band’s contribution to the bourgeoning genre is difficult to ignore. The Danish quartet successfully managed to fuse an abrasive brutality with technicality and good melodies, with the noteworthy guitar leads of the St?tzer brothers as well as the remarkable vocals from Flemming R?nsdorf serving as highlights. Due to Artillery’s demos being well distributed, the band gained worldwide recognition even before the release of their first official album; and the band’s first three studio albums, “Fear of Tomorrow”, “Terror Squad” and “By Inheritance”, all assumed the status of classics in the thrash genre. However, due to lack of support from labels and internal band disputes, Artillery never really achieved their big breakthrough and thus split up in 1991. In late 1999, Artillery reunited and released the critically acclaimed album “B.A.C.K.”, but they never really took off as a band again. A few live appearances came in the wake of the release, only to be followed by silence. However, in 2008 the classic core of Artillery, consisting of Morten and Michael St?tzer as well as Peter Thorslund and Carsten N Nielsen rejoined forces and subsequently employed new vocalist S?ren Adamsen. New material was recorded between March and April 2009 at Medley Studios in Denmark with S?ren Andersen as the producer. Metal Mind will release “When Death Comes” on 15th June in Europe, 23rd July in Japan (via King Records) and 11th August in USA (via MVD). In anticipation for the new Artillery album “When Death Comes”, Metal Mind will release the band's first live album. The DVD entitled “One Foot in the Grave, the Other One in the Trash” features a fantastic gig the thrash veterans of Artillery gave at Metalmania Festival 2008. “One Foot in the Grave, The Other One in the Trash” will be released on 25th May in Europe and 11th August in USA (via MVD).

Unicorn Records
(Canada) / April 26, 2009

New releases:

  • Mystery (Canada) – “Destiny?” (reissue)
  • Rick Miller (Canada) – “Falling through Rainbows”
  • Junk Farm (Canada) – “Didn’t Come to Dance”
  • Celestial Oeuvre (Canada) – “This Mortal Coil”
  • Agah Bahari (Iran) – “The Second Sight of a Mind”

Mystery: 10 years ago Mystery had just released their 3rd CD entitled Destiny? 2 songs will not make the final mix in 1998 including Beneath the Veil of Winter’s Face which 9 years later has become the title track of Mystery’s best selling CD, and Heaven can Wait that you can now find on the new 10th Anniversary edition of Destiny? After the release of the band’s latest album Beneath the Veil of Winter’s Face, tracks from the Destiny sessions were transferred into Illusion Studio’s computer and the new mix was started. Not only this album brought Mystery to a new level, but it also started the whole Unicorn Records adventure. PS: Mystery will be playing at FMPM-2009 in September and is now recording a new studio album.

Rick Miller: Unicorn Records is proud to welcome Rick Miller into the family and presents his latest progressive rock CD “Falling through Rainbows”. Rick Miller has been composing, producing, performing and recording since the early ‘80s. Having produced a great deal of instrumental music for various AV productions, in 1982 he released “Starsong,” a new age keyboard, instrumental work that sold over 30,000 copies worldwide. Early in the new century, Miller turned his attention to his first love, Progressive Rock, the music he grew up listening to. Between 2004 and 2009, he released 4 CDs in the prog rock genre, the latest being “Falling Through Rainbows”. His style can be considered to be about halfway between Pink Floyd and The Moody Blues, and although there is certainly a modern edge to his work, there is no doubt that his major influence comes directly from the 70s. All of Miller’s CDs feature an assortment of guest musicians and singers that typically add their own flavor to each piece they work on. Rick Miller currently lives and works in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada.

Junk Farm: The power rock trio is back with "Didn't Come to Dance", their new output. Although the music is complex, it is catchy and easy to listen to.

Celestial Oeuvre: “This Mortal Coil” is a successor to the band’s debut outing “Second Chance”. The music consists of intense vocals riding on elements of Rock, Psychedelic, Funk and Jazz Fusion.

Agah Bahari: Unicorn Digital is proud to announce that Iranian guitar player Agah Bahari has signed a deal with the label for the release and promotion of his debut solo outing "The Second Sight of a Mind". This is an instrumental progressive metal album featuring Agah Bahari, Derek Sherinian, Virgil Donati and Ric Fierabracci.

    Transcend Records
    (UK) / April 26, 2009

    Latest news:

Transcend Records announce a clutch of exciting new signings to bolster their already impressive artist roster. New deals have been signed with the following acts Cinders Fall, Idiom and Warrior Soul.
Warrior Soul: Iconic frontman Kory Clarke's vision permeates the proceedings: The band he created, Warrior Soul, which started from his spoken word performances on New York City's Lower East Side. From the trippy Doors-influenced debut to some of the punk-oriented and metal material, Kory is a man on a mission, combining tradition with avant-garde creativity.
Cinders Fall: It’s always good to see a British band with so much promise, and Cinders Fall has that in spades. For a young band, they spew forth one hell of a cultivated sound that could easily be confused for In Flames or Dark Tranquility when they were more metal and less progressive. They really understand what makes a great song, and they know how to use a great riff and garnish it with all the right harmonies and solos...these boys will go a long way.
Idiom: This band is a breath of fresh air for the Metal scene. Formed in Devon in 2005, the hard-working collective takes influence from bands as diverse and eclectic as Incubus, Rage Against The Machine, SiKth, System Of A Down and Deftones.

    Moonjune Records
    (USA) / April 26, 2009

    Forthcoming release:

2 years after their international debut, live album “Patahan”, and 6 years after their last studio album “Trance/Mission”, SimakDialog is ready with their outstanding blend of electro-acoustic, groove driven progressive-ethno-fusion. “Demi Masa” is the fifth album from Indonesian progressive jazz ensemble SimakDialog. Led by keyboardist and composer Riza Arshad, the band also features guitarist Tohpati and bassist Adhitya Pratama, working alongside the twinned percussion thrust of Endang Ramdan and Erlan Suwardana. The latter pair are specialists in traditional Sundanese kendang drumming. Arshad's compositional approach opens up from a jazz-rock palette, but his Fender Rhodes electric piano is clearly influenced by the crisp ring and shimmer of the Indonesian gamelan's array of gongs, metallophones and double-headed drums. We can immediately hear the similarities between the keyboard's percussive crackle and the sharp detonations of tunefully struck metal. The percussionists soon enter, clattering out their heavily organic patterns with roundly slapped skins, shaker bells and handclaps. Arshad frequently pushes his solos (or are they ongoing themes?) up to continually higher levels, urging repeated climaxes as each piece steadily amasses intensity. Tohpati is also attracted to resonant trebly zones, journeying from acoustic delicacy to a subtly distorted friction. The guitarist's presence has a significance beyond his role on this album, as Tohpati is one of the Indonesian music scene's most successful (and ubiquitous) players. Another element is tipped in later, with the percussionists chanting along to emphasise their dense structures. Arshad might recline in a hazy contemplation, but it doesn't take him long to develop an insistent pulse, invariably reaching a frenzied state. There's a clear recalling of the classic moves made by Chick Corea and Terje Rypdal in the 1970s, but this is laced with authentic gamelan elements utilised as part of this jazz-rock vocabulary. The result sounds both natural and fully integrated. This is a particular realm that couldn't be reached either by Western progressives or a traditional gamelan ensemble. The SimakDialog involves a unique combination of both spheres, without making the commercially tempting mistake of cultural dilution.
