Faust
(Germany) / November 23, 2014

Forthcoming release:

The Hamburg krautrock institution Faust invite the whole world to use their new album as a base, on which to build their own music. The 12 tracks, presented by founder members Jean-Herve Peron and Zappi Diermaier, are clearly, intrinsically typical of Faust in their own right, yet offer enough space for completely different works to develop. Which is exactly what they hope will happen. Whilst Diermaier largely remains true to his habitual handiwork – drums and percussion, Peron incorporates all manner of unusual sonic sources alongside his bass, various string instruments and piano, even using a sewing machine as a metronome. Tracks like “nur nous” and “ich bin ein pavian” show that Faust has lost none of their predilection for avant-garde Dadaism and improvisation. Peron and Diermaier actually surprise us with folkloristic excursions (“cavaquinho”, “gammes”). In short, there is something for everyone to work with here. Peron and Diermaier await the results with bated breath. Titled “j US t” (pronounces “Just Us”), the album will be released on November 28, 2014.

    Sound Records
    (Italy) / November 23, 2014

    New release:

  • Franco Baggiani – “Memories of Always”

Franco Baggiani’s new album is titled “Memories of Always”. His newest work is an echo of the funky mid-70s sound a la Miles Davis, among others. “While the overall structure maintains somewhat of a 1970s Davis-like essence, in this album I looked beyond that – at the 70s in general, of course, but not only to Davis, also to Ornette and Sun Ra, and found inspiration listening to Alfredo Casella and to certain Italian serial composers from the past century. If the starting point may appear to be Davis-like, the final outcome certainly is not”. Smoldering, magmatic, swirling sounds: 7 long studio tracks, created by the nods, looks, intuitions, collective flights and solo meditations of a 7-element ensemble.
