(57:15, ‘GRTR’) TRACK LIST: 1. Blacklight 19:21 2. Insomnia 4:48 3. Boy in The Window 3:38 4. Cassandra 29:26 LINEUP: Nick James – el. & ac. guitars; keyboards; vocals Matt Clarke – bass & acoustic guitar Donal Owen – ac. & el. drums Prolusion. 25-YARD SCREAMER, a band with a highly original name, is based in Wales, UK. ”Cassandra” is their third album, and was released in 2007. Analysis. Two epic tracks dominate this release, the opening tune Blacklight clocking in at 19 minutes and the final track Cassandra with a playtime of close to 30 minutes. Both these compositions are dominated by a mix of mellow, neo-prog passages with melodic keyboard textures and acoustic guitar conveying the melody; and harder segments where influences from bands like Rush and (early) U2 are easily heard, with driving guitar riffs as the dominating musical element. At times these harder segments can take on prog metal-like qualities in style, adding darker textures to the moods of the tunes. In between these long epics, two shorter tracks are placed. These pieces are more folk influenced, adding variation to this release. Conclusion. Overall, this is an interesting and promising release, worth checking out by fans of melodic progressive hard rock with neo-prog tendencies. OMB=Olav M Bjornsen: March 13, 2008 Related Links: |
