(48 min, Dreaming Records) ANTIKLIMAX is a moniker for French keyboardist Vincent Benesi's solo project. The booklet of his first release, "Plus Loin Vers l'Est", says that, apart from Vincent himself, two more musicians took part in this adventure:-), both mentioned without their last names. These are Russian vocalist Irina, who sings on the concluding piece, Vladivistok, and Benesi's countryman Francois, who plays electric guitar on one of the pieces somewhere in the middle of this 13-track recording, each of the guests having quite noticeably diversified the album's musical panorama. Although Vincent handles no less than two modern synthesizers, more often (and always appropriately) deploying orchestral pads than programmed drums, each of the other eleven compositions has a very strong cinematic feel. So all in all, the album reminds me of a soundtrack for a placatory love story-based movie, whose infrequent dramatic situations will not affect the listener's assurance of its happy ending. Stylistically, this is a 'classic' electronic music with a complete set of its attributes, and since each of the cuts is well thought-out, revealing no unnecessary overextended episodes, I can with a light heart recommend "Plus Loin Vers l'Est" to fans of that genre - exclusively.
