(17:07; Axiom) Before I get onto the music, I do feel I must recognise the amount of effort these guys are putting into their music. Guitarist Zaid Crowe was given my details by Malcolm Galloway of Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate, and he immediately got in contact. Not only was he providing me with links to demos as the EP wasn’t available at the time, but also links to their EPK which contains more information that I often get from major labels. Add to that the sheer fun and joy of their new video for “Believe”, one of the songs on this four-track EP, and here is a band that is going to have a blast on the journey. Remember, this is an new unsigned act, but the three amigos are already making a lot of friends in the prog scene. Axiom is a Birmingham-based instrumental progressive rock band formed in 2017 by three men with unfortunate facial hair, Josh Ainsworth (drums), Stuart Drinkwater (bass) and Zaid Crowe (guitar). Musically they are hard to describe, as musically they go from the likes of jazz/funk to math rock to metal and even some djent which certainly makes it interesting. There is a simple reason as to why they are an instrumental act, there simply isn’t any room for the words! This is complex, driven and intense music, and I’m not surprised to see that it was recorded live in the studio in a day before being mixed and mastered. This is going to be enjoyed not only by progheads, but those into bands such as Protest The Hero as they smash through musical boundaries. I am going to follow their musical career with interest, as it won’t be long before they are signed. Awesome stuff.
