Kosm - 2019 - "Eyes on the Inside"

(26:47; Kosm)

*****!

Earlier this year I reviewed Kosm’s 2018 album ‘Cosmonaut’, and now they are back with as new five-track EP. They are still sticking to their influences of influences from Mastodon, Tool and Gojira, but somehow have brightened the overall sound. Singer Jessie Grace is in total control, providing the perfect foil to the very heavy, very bottom end sound coming from the guys. The music is complex, and never to be taken for granted, and it is this complexity and intertwined notes, which allows Jessie to either growl at the lower end of her range or rise above in a manner similar to Anneke van Giersbergen when she is performing with Devin Townsend. This EP, which is available on Bandcamp as well as on CD, is a step change for the band as they continue to evolve and improve. Polished, bright, it cannot be long before they break out of their Vancouver homeland and start making a real name for themselves.

Progtector: December 2019
