(8:22; Fruits de Mer) UK band THE CHEMISTRY SET is a veteran act with a history that stretch back to the late 1980's, and have been regular contributors to many of the projects of UK label Fruits de Mer Records in the last decade or so. "Firefly" is their most recent single, and was released on the Regal Crabomophone sub-label of Fruits de Mer Records towards the tail end of 2018. The Chemistry set delivers two rather strikingly different songs on this single. The A side 'Firefly" is an energetic, bombastic and almost overly psychedelic affair, complete with sleepy vocals, majestic arrangements, sharp psychedelic guitar solo sounds and a cosmic eruption at the end. The B side 'Sail Away' takes a sharp turn towards the US however, with more of a subtle psychedelic spirit applied to an Americana sounding southern affair that aren't light years away from Bon Jovi's classic hit song 'Wanted Dead or Alive'. A solid, but very different song. The Chemistry set is a quality band, and they deliver in spades on this single. The A side here is perhaps the most interesting one for fans of psychedelic rock and progressive rock alike, but both songs are well planned and executed. One more in the long list of strong single releases by UK label Fruits de Mer Records.
