Various Artists - 2020 - “The Half Time Orange”

(77:12; Fruits de Mer Records)

*****+

This compilation is not for sale and knowing how quickly Fruits de Mer run out of stock of albums may not actually be available at all. This fourteen-track release is being sent free of charge to those who buy the latest batch of releases from the label as a thank you and also as a way of introducing people to bands they may not know. Approximately half of the artists involved have not previously been involved with FdeM (even label boss Keith Jones has lost track of exactly who has been involved in the many compilations and singles the label has put out over the years). I note one of the artists is The Lemon Clocks, and I remember Jeremy Morris sending me some of their material aeons ago, and another is the wonderful Kris Gietkowski with a track from his next album. But, the point of this, is that most people will have only heard of a few of the bands featured and this is to be used as a stepping point for punters to discover more. Bear in mind that not only is this being given away of free of charge, but unlike other album samplers I could mention, many of those involved do not have material available on FdeM. Here is a label promoting music for which they will get no financial reward! As it stands, it is another great collection of psychedelic music from one of my very favourite labels, and even though you should need no excuse to be buying material and supporting them, why not pop over to the site and having a look to see what is there. You won’t regret it (although your wallet might).
