BANDS & PERFORMERS:

Phil Collins
(UK) / February 28, 2016

Latest News:

Phil Collins (Genesis, solo) has said he's not planning to tour even though he's come out of retirement. But he'd still like to play a number of concerts, and he's in the very early stages of working on an album of new material. The former Genesis frontman and drummer last month announced he's changed his mind about ending his career, and later discussed the possibility of work with Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford again, while also saying that a reunion with Peter Gabriel is unlikely.

Deep Purple
(UK) / February 28, 2016

Latest News:

2016 promises to be a big year for Deep Purple. The band will not only finally receive their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they will also be making a new album. Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice revealed on Christmas Eve that the band will begin recording the follow-up to their 2013 album "Now What?" in the beginning of February. He said, "We'll go back into the studio in Nashville with Bob Ezrin; we had such a great time making the last record that we just want to try to duplicate that the next time around. There's plenty of material, probably more than we need, but there is a weeding process that happens when you start listening back in clarity. So, you know, the runts of the litter will be discarded, and the best 10 or 11 tracks will be worked on".

Trettioariga Kriget
(Sweden) / February 28, 2016

Forthcoming release:

Swedish progressive rock veterans Trettioariga Kriget, often quoted by Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt as one of the primary inspirations, are set to release their new studio album, titled "Seaside Air", on March 14. “Seaside Air” was recorded during summer and autumn 2015 in Stockholm. It contains seven new original songs, most of them written by Stefan Fredin, and all with lyrics by Olle Thornvall. For the first time in the long history of Trettioariga Kriget, the entire album is in English, which should guarantee a new level of interest among the band’s very international fan base. Following the album trilogy that Trettioariga Kriget (translates as The Thirty Years War) released between 2004 and 2011, and which formed the band’s autobiography, “Seaside Air” is a relaxed, self-assured album. It has a pronounced pop-rock feel to it, as if these Swedish masters of progressive music have finally allowed themselves to indulge in their childhood’s love of The Beatles. The songs are melodic and immediately accessible without losing the depth and complexity for which the band is so well known. “Seaside Air” is a phrase that could refer to the famously invigorating atmosphere of the band’s native Saltsjobaden, but it could also mean “a melody by the sea”, full of light and color. A warm sound permeates this new album from Trettioariga Kriget, an album in which the band reinvents itself once again, and creates new music by looking back on its history.

RECORDING COMPANIES:

Silva Screen Records
(UK) / February 28, 2016

Forthcoming release:

  • Francis Monkman – “The Long Good Friday Soundtrack”

To celebrate 35th anniversary of “The Long Good Friday” movie, Silva Screen Records is remastering and re-releasing the long deleted original score, to include selected dialogs. A stereo version of “The Long Good Friday Soundtrack” will be released by the label on March 25, 2016 (which also happens to be Good Friday). The score is written by multi-instrumentalist Francis Monkman, best known for being member of progressive rock bands Curved Air and Sky. Monkman’s electronic synth score features seminal members of Sky – Herbie Flowers (guitar), Tristan Fry (percussion) and Kevin Peek (guitar), as well as Ronnie Aspery and Stan Sulzmann on saxes and helps to ground the film in the early ‘80s. One of the truly great British gangster thrillers, “The Long Good Friday” rated as the 21st best British film of the 20th century in a BFI 1999 survey. The film, a 1981 British gangster piece, starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren, was first shown in the UK at the London Film Festival in November 1980. Viewed today, 35 years after its release, the film remains like all classic films completely timeless. With its two outstanding leads, compelling direction by John Mackenzie and filmed against a background of London about to undergo massive change, this is a cinematic milestone. “Monkman’s score tightens the tension to the screaming point” (AllMusic).

    Kscope Music
    (UK) / February 28, 2016

    Forthcoming release:

  • iamthemorning – “Lighthouse”

Kscope Music will release the brand new studio album “Lighthouse” from the Russian progressive duo iamthemorning on April 1. “Lighthouse”, the follow up to the band's 2014 album “Belighted”, will be released on CD, LP (with MP3 download code) and digitally. Formed in 2010 in St Petersburg, Russia, iamthemorning features pianist Gleb Kolyadin and the charismatic vocals of Marjana Semkina. The band self-released its debut album in 2012 before signing to Kscope Music and releasing “Belighted”, its first record for the label in September 2014. In 2015 the duo toured Europe with labels mates, the art-rock outfit, Gazpacho. As with “Belighted”, the engineering and mixing on “Lighthouse” is handled by Marcel van Limbeek (Tori Amos) and self-produced by Gleb and Marjana. The album also features guest musicians Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Crimson) on drums and Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) on bass. “Lighthouse” is a rich and eclectic album with echoes of classical music, the Canterbury scene, northern folk, jazz and electronic sounds. Featuring a story of the progression of mental illness, the album takes the listener through the stages with the story's central character, her attempts to fight it, and temporal remission leading to a final breakdown. Lyrically, the works and lives of Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath inspire the album. Recorded across London, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the core instrument of the band, the grand piano, was recorded in Mosfilm Studios in Moscow, one of the largest and oldest studios in Russia. Founded in 1920, Mosfilm is renowned for recording orchestras for soundtracks for the most famous Soviet-era films, including works by Tarkovsky and Eisenstein. The album artwork for “Lighthouse” was created by watercolor artist Constantine Nagishkin whom the band has previously collaborated with before.
