BANDS & PERFORMERS:

Nazareth
(UK) / May 31, 2017

Latest News:

Frontiers Music has announced the signing of legendary rockers Nazareth to the label for the release of a brand new studio album in 2018. The current line-up of the band consists of Pete Agnew (founding member, on bass), Lee Agnew (Pete’s son, on drums), Jimmy Murrison (guitars) and new singer Carl Sentance (who joined the band in 2015 after Dan McCafferty had to retire due to illness). Pete Agnew says, “With Carl as our brand new singer and Frontiers as our brand new record company, the buzz surrounding us right now is the same as it was when we went in to record our very first album. I can't wait for the sparks to fly!”

Iced Earth
(USA) / May 31, 2017

Forthcoming release:

Iced Earth has finished work on its new album, "Incorruptible" (10 tracks), for a mid-June release. Regarding how "Incorruptible" compares to previous Iced Earth albums, guitarist and main songwriter Jon Schaffer said: “It’s something halfway between "The Dark Saga" (1996) and "Dystopia" (2011), though there are also a lot of new things, of course”. As you can see, the band’s only true progressive metal masterpiece, the highly underrated “Burnt Offerings” (1995), hasn’t been mentioned, unlike “The Dark Saga”, their most straightforward and primitive album, and “Dystopia”, which represents traditional heavy metal in style. So no prog-metal fan should expect anything extraordinary from "Incorruptible", despite the album’s ambitious title.

Steven Wilson
(UK) / May 31, 2017

Forthcoming release:

Well, just like Opeth (whose latest release “Sorceress” is their most mainstream-sounding album to date), Steven Wilson is already petered out too, no doubt. Here is a brief description of his new outing: “From futurist rock and spectral electronics to hyper-space ambience and dizzying guitars, the new Steven Wilson album, “To The Bone” (11 tracks), is hat-tip to the ambitious progressive pop records of his youth (think Peter Gabriel’s “So”, Talk-Talk’s “Colour of Spring” and Tears For Fears’ “Seeds of Love”)”. Alas, inspiration is as transient as everything in this world… Genre: Progressive Rock/Pop. ‘Line-up’: Steven Wilson: vocals, instruments, programming, electronics; with: Ninet Tayeb: vocals (3, 7). Release date: August 18, 2017. Label: Caroline International. Format: CD, vinyl, digital, Blu-Ray.

    Cuneiform Records
    (USA) / May 31, 2017

    New release:

  • Bubblemath – “Edit Peptide”

The American band Bubblemath is a new signee to Cuneiform Records. These progressive rockers from Minneapolis had a following of nearly 90,000 Myspace fans at the time of their first album in 2002. Their second album and first on Cuneiform, “Edit Peptide”, is an epic story of creative drive and determination. To record and release their sophomore album, Bubblemath persevered over a 15-year period riddled with personal hurdles and technical and logistic potholes. They had something important to express, to share with the public, and “Edit Peptide” is the result. (Vitaly’s note: Bubblemath is one of those – very few – bands that are able to make the short-format songs sound highly, I’d even say incredibly progressive!)
