Xitizen Cain - 1992 - "Serpents in camouflage" (UK) ****

"SiC" is the most accessible work from the best, in my profound opinion, new band from Britain (within the framerwork of "Symphonic Progressive"). I've read many reviews on Xitizen Cain's albums, where this one is a "highly recommended album", and very often it is described as "their best". As for me, "Serpents..." is quite overrated (unlike their last creation: see "X" section in Detailed Reviews). The range of most songs here is 8 to 12 minutes, and anyway seven of the nine represented on this album are quite original (the playing time of these seven songs about one hour). The CD-reissue made by "Cyclops" contains in addition two bonus tracks. One of these is just a demo-version of the album's opening song (and this demo is worse). The second bonus is a very simple song Interlights is made simply in the vein of Marillion's copies, although the band declared this one as the "very, very first demo of Citizen Cain". Hey, friends, have you forgotten of "Ghost Dance" album? The music on "SiC" is a high-quality Neo-Sympho-Prog influenced mostly by early Marillion. This one is far better than any other album from the followers of Marillion, with a possible exception for IQ, and without regard to poor imitators, though that challenge of XCain to Marillion's terrain is not quite so good as... (see the review lower). content

Xitizen Cain - 1994 - "Somewhere but Yesterday" ******

What's a masterpiece! Finally, I can present to you perhaps the only great Clone-album. Xitizen Cain, these excellent composers and musicians alike, dedicated it to Genesis, which in reality is simply a serious kick. This album is by no means a "poor copy" of any one of Genesis' albums! Also these Scottish guys are not simple imitators of the Legend. "Somewhere but Yesterday", a magnificent Clone no doubt, seems to appear as if especially for me, for you, for all of those who miss much the true Genesis! In the course of almost 70 minutes of listening of this album, one gets an absolute impression of another excellent work from Genesis of 197..., which "got lost accidentally". Though, my favourite album from Xitizen Cain is their last, paradoxically underrated "Raising the Stones", about which read the Detailed Review in "X" section, please, and which is also maybe not so underrated as their debut "Ghost Dance", failed to be noticed. content
